DirecTV Boxing Nights: Jayson Velez to Defend Regional Title
By Robert Quijano

Universal Boxing Promotions returns this Saturday July 8th 2017 with their ongoing series DirecTV Boxing Nights from El Palacio De Recreacion y Deportes de Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

In the Main Event of the evening Felix “La Sombra” Caraballo (7-0-2 with 6 KOs) will defend his WBA Featherweight Fedecaribe title against undefeated prospect Edgardo “Eggie” Laboy (12-0-1 with 7 KOs). This should be a toe-to-toe battle.

In the Co-Main Event Jayson “La Maravilla” Velez (24-4-1 with 16 KOs) is set to defend his WBC Super Featherweight Fecarbox title against the rugged Mexican Giovanni “El Ruso” Caro (24-21-4 with 21 KOs). In a recent interview Velez has expressed interest in fighting prospects Jose “Wonderboy” Lopez or Christopher “Pitufo” Diaz and although those bouts may not materialize, Velez has stated that he is the best 126-130 lb. fighter in Puerto Rico and wants to prove that to the people here. Ironically Juan “Juanma” Manuel Lopez’ name has been speculated as a future opponent but Velez must first get by Caro.

The card is slated to have 10 bouts including prospects Ruben O’Neill Mass, John Anthony Correa, Orlando Gonzalez among others and the debut of Jean Carlos “El Indio” Quintana. Quintana is the son of former World Champion Carlos Quintana. Jean Carlos had an amateur record of 45-5 and has been training for a year to make his professional debut. This has the makings of a very entertaining card and I’ll be there to cover it. Tickets are available by calling 787-303-0334 or online at www.prticket.com
